Park Faculty Member Christine Tillman Installs Chroma in Japan

Category:

Upper School Visual Arts and Pre-K-12 Visual Arts Chair Christine Tillman spent 3.5 weeks in Japan this summer working with her collaborator, artist Lisa Solomon based out of Oakland, California, to execute a new version of their Chroma project.

Christine and Lisa have been working together for 10 years organizing crowd sourced objects by color in massive installations. Chroma Japan features objects from the U.S. and Japan, including donations from Park School students. The installation is on view at the Koumi Machi Kogen museum of art in Koumi, Japan, a beautiful mountain town in Nagano Prefecture. The museum was designed by well known Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and Christine and Lisa created their installation on its distinctive curved wall. The piece is roughly 18 meters long and 5 meters high — picture a bigger and concave version of Park’s Davison Lobby.
