From the The Baltimore Sun: Raye Chappell is the winner of this week’s Reader SunShots category “Abstract” for her photo of a blue fiber optic lamp. Chappell, a senior at The Park School of Baltimore, used a Canon EOS Rebel T3i and 18mm lens and a two-second exposure to capture the otherworldly image. She writes, “Since I love light paintings, I decided to take a few long exposure shots of the lamp capturing each fiber as its own little light, dancing around one another.” Photo editor Jerry Jackson critiques, “The most successful abstract images keep you guessing as to their origin. This photo reminded me of NASA images of the earth at night taken a few years ago. The framing an shallow depth of field really work here.”
