Park Fields Four Varsity Championship Teams in Fall 2016
This fall, four of our varsity teams earned titles in their respective conferences, including Girls’ Cross Country, Boys’ Cross Country, Girls’ Varsity Soccer, and Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey.
Members of Park’s Girls’ Cross Country team took three of the top five spots in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) conference final held on October 25. The strong finish earned the undefeated girls (12-0 coming into the meet) the 2016 team title. Clara Brill-Carlat ’17 finished 2nd, just 3 seconds behind the front runner, with a personal best time of 21:07. Behind her were Julia Luljak ’19 (3rd), Maeve Thistel ’19 (5th), Celka Rice ’19 (7th), and Samantha Brooks ’18 (18th) to round out our top five.
Park’s Boys’ Cross Country team placed all five of its scoring runners in the top 11 in the November 1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) final, earning them the team title. Timmy Barrick ’17 took the B Conference individual title (and finished 7th overall!) with a personal best of 16:38. Behind him were Brian Malone ’17, Matthew Hudes ’19, Finn Council ’19, Peter Luljak ’19, Mike Fishman ’17, and Harry Levine ’18, many of whom scored their own personal bests, combining to outpace the second place team by nearly 30 points!
Girls’ Varsity Soccer finished their season undefeated, becoming the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) C conference champions. Pulling out a 2-1 victory over St. Vincent Pallotti in the closing minutes of regulation November 5 at Anne Arundel Community College, goals were scored in the first three minutes and in the last two minutes to secure the victory.
The #1 seeded Varsity Field Hockey team won against the #2 seeded St Timothy’s in the championship game, earning Park the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) C conference team title. The November 6 game extended into double overtime when Park scored the final goal, winning 3-2. The varsity team had previously lost to St. Timothy’s earlier in the season.
