Park Welcomes Cara Llewellyn as Gordon Berman ’68 Memorial Lower School Resident Author

Category:

We were excited to welcome Cara Llewellyn to campus yesterday as the 2024 Gordon Berman ’68 Memorial Lower School Resident Author (Designer)!

Cara is a designer and art director for children’s books, including the Caldecott Medal-winning The Undefeated by Kwame Alexander and Kadir Nelson. Lower School Librarian Laura Schlitz shared the importance of hearing Cara’s perspective as a book designer — “…to make us aware of all the choices that go into creating a book. I want children to see that there’s yet another way to be creative!”

It was clear throughout Cara’s assemblies and workshop that the Lower School students were fascinated by the process of bringing a book to life and asked questions about all aspects of her work and inspiration. The visit ended with a book signing where students were excited to search for Cara’s name in the newly appreciated endpapers of their children’s books. Thank you for spending the day with us, Cara!
