Essay by Eighth Grader Ollie Thakar Recognized by the Society of the Cincinnati
Park eighth grader Ollie Thakar has been awarded the first place prize of $500 by the Society of the Cincinnati of Maryland? for his essay on the contributions of Maryland’s John Eager Howard to America. The Society promotes public interest in the American Revolution through its library and museum collections, exhibitions, programs, publications, and other activities. This essay contest included entrants from all the Baltimore area independent schools; Zachary Stern ’19 won first prize in 2014.
In awarding the honor, Mr. William A. Fisher wrote, “Lightning strikes Park School a second time, for I am very pleased to advise you that Oliver T. has been awarded the first prize for his excellent essay on John Eager Howard. … The Park School should be very proud of the essay developed and submitted by him. Oliver and Park will each receive a check in the amount of $500. Our Society’s most fervent hope is that this essay contest has exposed the participating essayists to the values and contributions of one of our most important Maryland forefathers and will encourage an interest to learn more about the historical individuals who may not be so well-known but have made a significant contribution to the foundations of our state and nation.”
