Fall Update – Middle School Girls’ Athletic Program

With daily practices and as many as three games a week, the Middle School Girls’ Athletic Program has been busy this past month. We’ve fielded three teams this fall: Girls “A” Soccer, Girls “A” Field Hockey, and Girls “B” Field Hockey, and all teams compete against a variety of schools, mostly within the IAAM. The soccer team travels to the Sugar Campus every day while field hockey practices on the main campus. Our teams are working hard and enjoying competition; it is impressive to see the improvement each day!

The Girls’ Soccer program is 21 strong this year with a mix of 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders. Head coach Sam Scholsburg and assistant coach Sisley Pumilia are excited about the great season they’ve been having so far. “Every player has been improving with each practice and game but, most importantly, we are becoming a cohesive team rather than 21 individual players. As coaches, we have really enjoyed watching the girls grow more confident in their technical skills and knowledge of the game,” Sam said. With more students coming out to play, we hope to field both an A and a B team next season.

On the field hockey side, enough girls came out for the program to field both an A and B team this year. PE teacher Caroline Roche coaches the A team while Stacy Gold joins us each afternoon for the B team. Both groups have played a number of games and continue to impress their coaches with their determination and great progress. “The Middle School Girls’ Field Hockey season is off to a wonderful start! We are so excited to have 27 girls involved in the program and we were able to create two competitive teams,” coach Roche said. “The girls work hard each day to improve their skills and learn strategies to use during games. We have faced some tough competitors, but we’ve played hard each game. Our defense is strong, and our offense has scored some beautiful goals. We are excited to see what happens the rest of the season.”

Both programs will continue to play throughout the month of October. Schedules can be found online for anyone hoping to get out and support these programs.
