Heather VanMouwerik

Heather teaches two sections of United States History for 11th Graders. Examples of her elective courses include Modern Russia: Revolution to the Present and United States Government and Civic Life. 

Before joining Park, Heather taught AP-level U.S. government, civics, and D.C. history courses at Capital City Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. Previously, Heather spent several years at University of California, Riverside, where she taught early modern and modern European history, as well as upper division courses on World War I and historical methodology. Outside of teaching, she helped manage an independent bookstore and was the managing editor for GradHacker, a blog for Inside Higher Ed.

Heather holds a B.A. in Political Science from Calvin College and an M.A. in History from University of California, Riverside. She has a Teaching Certification in Secondary History from Moreland University. Outside of the classroom, Heather is a longtime follower of professional cycling and an avid traveler. Both of these passions have resulted in her spending a lot of time in France, Central Europe, and China.
