Jim — Mr. Howard — began teaching at Park in 1966 and retired in 2010. His influence can be found throughout Park’s campus both indoors and out. He devoted himself to providing Park students with opportunities to triumph over challenges that were both intellectual and physical. He certainly taught to Park’s motto of mens sana in corpore sano. Most importantly, Jim created an atmosphere that inspired lifelong learning for generations of Park students.

In 1987, the Class of 1972 created the James R. Howard III Outdoor Education Fund to support Park’s Challenge Course. We remain ever-grateful for Jim’s vision and dedication to Park’s Challenge Course program. Thank you for your support and for continuing Jim’s legacy centering the value of outdoor education.
