Upper School Classes Visit Amy Sherald’s “American Sublime” Exhibition
Yesterday, Upper School students saw Amy Sherald’s exhibition, “American Sublime” at The Baltimore Museum of Art. Christine Tillman’s Painting and Senior Studio classes were joined by history students from Grace Gahagan’s Current Events course and Jay Golon’s Civil Rights Movements class. Students spent time exploring the exhibition and learning about Sherald’s inspiration and process. Through observational sketching and note-taking, students were tasked with finding connections between the exhibition and their coursework in arts and history.
It was particularly special for students to experience the work of someone so connected to the greater Baltimore community, as Sherald shares: “Baltimore has always been part of my DNA as an artist. Every brushstroke carries a little of its history, its energy, its people, and my time there. To bring this exhibition here is to return that love.”
