Park Welcomes WYPR’s Aaron Henkin as the 2015 Weinberg Resident Journalist
Park welcomed Aaron Henkin to campus on March 25, 2015, as the Weinberg Resident Journalist. Aaron is a co-creator and producer for “The Signal” on WYPR, a weekly program focused on culture and life in Baltimore. He also develops podcasts.
Aaron spoke to Upper School students about his most recent project, Out of the Blocks, in which he interviews residents and business owners from a randomly selected block in Baltimore. The first installment of Out of the Blocks weaves together the diverse stories and perspectives of those working and living in the 3300 block of Greenmount Avenue: restaurant owners, cooks, hair stylists, and boutique owners. (To listen to the full one-hour Out of the Blocks debut, visit http://programs.wypr.org/podcast/out-blocks-%E2%80%93-3300-greenmount) According to Aaron, “whatever your job is makes you an expert philosopher in a certain aspect of life.” After the assembly, Upper School students had opportunity to attend workshops led by Aaron about radio production and interviewing and writing for radio. He also met with the members of Postscript, Park’s award winning student newspaper. To check out the latest edition of The Postscript, visit {staticroot}news/postscript/
The Resident Journalist program is sponsored by the family of Robert L. Weinberg, a member of the Class of 1940 and devotee of Baltimore journalist H.L. Mencken. To learn about past Resident Journalists, visit {staticroot}academics/visiting-scholars/weinberg-resident-journalists/.
