Kara Ker

Kara, LCSW-C, is a counselor for our Middle and Upper School students. She supports students’ mental, emotional, and social well-being and development through providing individual counseling and support, crisis intervention, and teaching social-emotional awareness and learning (SEAL) classes. Kara co-leads Park Connects workshops. 

Since 1999, Kara has worked as a clinical social worker serving a variety of populations in Baltimore City.  Prior to coming to Park, and for over a decade, she had her own private psychotherapy practice in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore City, working with adults and young adults. Prior to that, she worked as a psychiatric therapist at the Children’s Mental Health Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital, serving as a clinical case manager with children and families at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in the Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoption Program, and working with teens in a variety of other settings (Hampden Family Center, The Children’s Guild, Florence Crittenton Services). She also worked for the Federal Government, at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as a health insurance specialist where she reviewed state Medicaid plans as states expanded Medicaid services through the Affordable Care Act. 

Kara is a Maryland Board of Social Work board-approved supervisor. She’s a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Greater Washington Society for Clinical Social Work (GWSCW).
