9/10 Production: Ring Round the Moon
By Jean Anouilh, adapted by Christopher Fry
The poor, beautiful dancer Isabelle has come to a high-society ball at the invitation of charming scoundrel Hugo, who disdains love in all forms. He has brought her to break up the engagement of his lovesick identical twin brother Fredrick. However, Isabelle must hide her identity (and melodramatic mother) to blend in with the blundering, wealthy socialites, while Hugo’s cousin, Lady India, scrambles to conceal her affair with the family secretary! In this messy confection of mistaken identities and heartbreak schemes, Ring Round the Moon turns the Cinderella trope inside-out to mock romance and elitism with wit and sympathy.
