Modern Language Exchange Trips Spring 2023

Category:

Buen viaje & bon voyage! Our language department certainly made the most of spring break! Thirty Spanish language students headed to Mérida, Yucatán, México, and 23 French language students headed to Paris, France, for more than a week of immersion and excursions.

For 10 days, Spanish language students traveled to Mérida, Yucatán, México. They took classes at Habla Language Institute, had cultural experiences such as tortilla making and dance lessons, and took excursions to visit historical places like the Maya city of Uxmal. They also took day trips to the Celestún natural reserve and the port of Chuburná for some kayaking in the mangroves. They explored Mérida’s historical neighborhoods (Santa Ana and Santiago) and interacted with many locals, including their host families!

The French exchange trip took students to Paris for eight days as a part of the long-standing exchange with Institut de la Tour. They visited various sites and museums in Paris including a boat ride on the Seine (Bateaux Mouches); the Musée d’Orsay; the neighborhoods of Ile-St-Louis, the Marais, and Montmartre; the Memorial of the Shoah (their Holocaust museum); the Memorial of/to the Martyrs of the Deportation; the Musée de l’Orangerie; Notre Dame, the Ste-Chapelle, and the Louvre!

Thank you to all of the chaperones and people who made these trips possible!
