Park Welcomes New York Times Reporters Annie Karni ’00 and Luke Broadwater to Campus

Category:

Yesterday, New York Times Congressional Correspondent Annie Karni ’00 and White House reporter Luke Broadwater joined the Upper School for an assembly to talk about their new book “Mad House,” as well as their careers in journalism, experiences reporting on Congress and the current administration, and the challenges facing today’s evolving media and political landscape.

At Park, Annie was editor of Postscript, our student-run newspaper, and always knew she wanted to be a writer. She currently writes features and profiles, with a focus on House Republican leadership and social issues in congress. Prior to that, she covered Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and the first two years of the Trump presidency for Politico

Luke, a fellow Baltimore native, was a reporter for The Baltimore Sun for nearly a decade before moving to The New York Times. A series of Luke’s investigative articles at The Baltimore Sun won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting and a George Polk Award for political reporting. He now covers the White House and the current administration.

During the assembly, Upper School students asked thoughtful questions about Annie’s and Luke’s careers and new book, which aims to expose congressional dysfunction and explain how we have gotten to where we are today.
