The Park Jazz Collective Travels to New Orleans to Participate and Perform in the Jazz Education Network’s Annual Conference
Under the artistic direction of Maeve Royce, Lower, Middle, and Upper School Music Teacher, The Park Jazz Collective (PJC) traveled to New Orleans, LA, last week to participate and perform in the Jazz Education Network’s (JEN) annual conference, where the group had the opportunity to immerse itself in the musical life of the birthplace of jazz. Chris Peterson, Lower, Middle, and Upper School Music Teacher and Director of After-School Music and Deborah Hull, Director of Arts, also attended the conference, along with parent chaperones.
While in New Orleans, members of PJC listened to jazz luminaries and other student groups play and perform, participated in clinics and workshops featuring presentations by leading professionals in the field, played in late-night jam sessions, performed for and received direct feedback from jazz legend and Grammy-winner John Clayton (bass player, composer, arranger, and producer) and Ben Nichols (internationally known jazz saxophone player, composer, and academic), and explored the vibrant city of New Orleans.
It was such a great experience for Park students to play with, listen to, and learn directly from professionals and fellow student musicians in the World Capital of Jazz. Thanks to all who made this possible!
