Tara Northcott

Lead Technology Coordinator and Lead Robotics Mentor

Tara assists Upper School students and teachers in integrating technology into curricular areas, and teaches Upper School computer science courses. She also works with our Pre-K-12 Robotics Clubs, the Upper School Neighborhood Revitalization Club, and the Lower School third grade Minecraft Club.

Tara began her career as an elementary school teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she taught for 11 years. While there, she transitioned to teaching middle school and then became a technology coordinator. In 2009, she moved to Wellington, New Zealand, to do research and complete a Ph.D. in Educational Technology. She returned to the United States in 2012 and has been teaching in Montgomery County and now in Baltimore since then. Just prior to joining Park, Tara was the Upper School Academic Technologist and Computer Science teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland.

“I love to travel because I find it so interesting to immerse myself in different cultures, and to learn from people who are ethnically different from me in their own environments. Studying teachers and students in New Zealand for my Ph.D. was fascinating not only because I was able to learn about the effects of integrating technology, but also because I was able to live there and experience New Zealand culture for three years in the process.”

Tara holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from Ball State University, an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada, and a Ph.D. in Education (Technology Integration) from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Her Doctoral Thesis is entitled, “Teaching and learning with digital technologies in the intermediate school classroom: An Activity Theory analysis of classroom interactions.” Tara and Upper School science teacher Blair Northcott are the parents of two Park students in the Classes of 2031 and 2034.
