Dorrie Bright-Whitson

Upper School Registrar

Dorrie is the Upper School Registrar. She creates the Upper School schedule, registers students, maintains academic records, coordinates the production of the Program of Studies, and serves as a master problem solver and systems creator for students, teachers, and administrators.

She coordinates SAT, PSAT, and ACT testing. Prior to taking on scheduling, Dorrie taught physics in the Upper School.

In addition to teaching and tutoring physics and math, Dorrie has been a professional seamstress, sprout farm hand, lounge singer, and embroidery machine operator. She’s done yard, garden, and farm work, fence painting, and window dressing, and formed an original punk rock band.

Dorrie attended Jackson Community College, Nashville Technical Institute, and Tennessee State University. She earned an A.B. in Physics from Dartmouth College, with additional concentrated course-work in Education and in Russian Language, Culture, and Literature. She was the recipient of Rockefeller Center and John Sloan Dickey Foundation for International Understanding grants to work in Russia and Estonia with an environmental NGO.

Dorrie has presented workshops on graphical analysis, modern physics, and physics-teaching at academic conferences.

But you may know her best as a purveyor of flowers in the carpool line to support the Civil Rights Trip.
