Ann Starer

Lower School Visual Arts

As a visual arts teacher in Lower School, Ann “guides children in creating art.”

Ann has taught elementary aged children for close to 35 years, including working in public schools, private schools, and all boys and all girls schools. After spending 30 years as a homeroom teacher for children ranging in grades from one through four, Ann switched to working as an art teacher, guiding and appreciating, and creating with our youngest Park artists in Pre-K to second grade.

“I am committed to the tenets of Progressive Education: experiential learning, fostering intellectual curiosity, and creating with the whole child. My teaching of art is highly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education and the Harvard Project Zero Studio Habits of Mind.”

Ann earned a B.A. in Fine Arts (Studio Art) from University of Pennsylvania, and an M.Ed. in Elementary Education from The George Washington University. She is the parent of two Park School alumnae in the Classes of 2011 and 2014.
