Groundskeeper
THE POSITION
The Park School of Baltimore is seeking a Groundskeeper. This position, reporting to the Director of Groundskeeping, provides care for campus grounds, athletic fields, and exterior facilities.
Essential Personnel Designation
This is a 12 month, non-exempt position. This position is designated as Essential-As-Needed Personnel, requiring participation during situations when most staff would remain home, including severe weather events, to maintain campus safety, clear snow or debris, and ensure operational readiness.

The Park School is a non-sectarian, independent, gender inclusive day school of 803 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1912 as one of the early progressive schools, The Park School continues to practice a distinct educational philosophy. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain athletic fields, landscape beds, and campus common areas.
- Operate and maintain grounds equipment (tractors, mowers, blowers, snow removal equipment).
- Assist with field renovations, synthetic turf maintenance, and irrigation systems.
- Participate in setup and breakdown for school events.
- Serve as part of the school’s emergency response team, performing duties such as snow or weather-related cleanup.
- Maintain organized shop and storage areas.
- Operate AM/PM bus routes and trips as required — candidates must hold or be willing to obtain a Maryland Class C Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. The school provides paid time for training and covers the cost to obtain the license. Employees are expected to complete this process in a timely manner (approximately six months from hire); the ability to obtain and maintain CDL credentials is a condition of continued employment in this role.
- Performs other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in landscaping, sports turf, and equipment operation preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and understand documents such as safety and operating manuals.
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid Maryland driver’s License required.
- Acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
- Ability to perform DOT physical and pass drug testing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate equipment safely.
- Must work outdoors in all seasonal conditions.
- Moderate-to-heavy physical activity including bending, lifting, walking, and equipment operation.
WORK HOURS
- Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- On-call rotation on a regularly assigned basis; responding to after-hour alarm calls when necessary.
- Required participation in emergency and adverse weather operations as Essential Personnel.
WAGES
This is a non-exempt position that pays $18.00 – $22.00/hr.
