Assistant Librarian

Fall 2025

THE POSITION

The Park School is seeking a full-time Assistant Librarian for fall 2025. The Assistant Librarian joins a team that includes the Director of Library Services, Middle School Librarian, Lower School Librarian, and Archivist. The Park School library serves all grades Pre-K-12 and collaborates on projects and special events, and provides resources for teachers for curricular planning.

Devoted to intellectual inquiry, a collaborative spirit of learning, and an appreciation for the diversity of human experience, The Park School of Baltimore is a community founded on positive expectations of our students and respect for individual differences.

We cultivate children’s innate curiosity by nurturing their interests and engaging them as active participants in their own education.

We support young people in becoming confident questioners and responsible citizens of the world.

The Park School is a non-sectarian, independent, gender inclusive day school of 827 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1912 as one of the early progressive schools, The Park School continues to practice a distinct educational philosophy. The core values today, as in 1912, are a belief in children’s capacity to love learning, to grow academically and emotionally when inspired by highly qualified, caring teachers, and to develop self-discipline, confidence, and creative problem-solving skills through deep exploration and constant challenge. At every grade level, from Pre-Kindergarten through Upper School, Park actively encourages questioning and conversation as essential elements of the learning process. The school philosophy emphasizes a belief in positive expectations and expects that students, as they mature, will take increasing responsibility for their own learning.

The Assistant Librarian will develop curriculum for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students, teach library classes (three per week) for Pre-K and Kindergarten, and collaborate with the Pre-K and Kindergarten teaching teams. In addition to read alouds and browsing time, the curriculum for our youngest children will eventually incorporate project-based learning. Above all, consistent encouragement of children to develop a lifelong love of reading is essential.

This position also includes cataloging and processing of books, shelving, inventory; monitoring overdue notices and managing student overdue billing; assisting the Director of Library Services in management of databases and related billing; organizational support for all three divisional librarians (Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools) as needed for events, programming, and collection development; and support in management of students during 1st-6th Grade classes, and during free blocks for students on the Middle and Upper School side of the library.
