Assistant Director of Athletics

THE POSITION
The Park School seeks an Assistant Director of Athletics who will support the day to day details of the athletics program. The person in this role will work with a team that includes the Director of Athletics, Physical Education Department Chair, and Athletics Trainer to promote Park’s vision for the athletics and physical education programs within the school and in the greater community. This is a 10-month position, with some summer work, that reports directly to the Director of Athletics.

The Park School is a non-sectarian, independent, gender inclusive day school of 820 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1912 as one of the early progressive schools, The Park School continues to practice a distinct educational philosophy. The core values today, as in 1912, are a belief in children’s capacity to love learning, to grow academically and emotionally when inspired by highly qualified, caring teachers, and to develop self-discipline, confidence, and creative problem-solving skills through deep exploration and constant challenge. At every grade level, from Pre-Kindergarten through Upper School, Park actively encourages questioning and conversation as essential elements of the learning process. The school philosophy emphasizes a belief in positive expectations and expects that students, as they mature, will take increasing responsibility for their own learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum Bachelor’s degree is required
- Orientation compatible with a progressive educational philosophy
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills and an ability to communicate effectively with multiple constituent groups
- A disciplined self-starter with the ability to plan, prioritize, and organize, while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated experience and/or openness with technology that support current best practices
- Experience coaching in an educational setting, including mentoring and evaluating other coaches
- Demonstrated commitment to educational values through sports and willingness to uphold the progressive values of Park School

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate with members of the school community in a timely and effective manner
- Develop schedules and manage logistics, as needed
- Teach physical education classes, as deployed
- Work with the school’s Communications team to ensure athletic schedules and events are posted on the school’s website
- Assist the Director of Athletics with staffing decisions, and support the onboarding of new coaches and assist with orientation sessions for all coaches
- Assist the Director of Athletics in game day field preparations as well as daily maintenance and preparation of athletic facilities and fields, in partnership with the Facilities department
- Order and organize uniforms and inventory
- Coach at least one sport per school year
- Attend Middle School and Upper School faculty meetings, as able
- Assist with the planning and execution of Park’s large-scale athletic events (4-6 per year)
- Support student athletes in leadership engagement to promote the athletic program within the school and greater community
- In partnership with the Communications team, support athletics-related social media accounts
- Promote program growth while respecting traditions and upholding Park’s athletic mission
- Participate in admission events, including open houses, area high school nights, and clinics, as needed
- Support existing partnerships and build new relationships that will complement and enhance the athletic program
SALARY
Park’s job requirements differ, with some positions requiring no experience, while others require years of expertise. Our salary range is from $60,000 to $80,000 and is based on factors such as years of experience, qualifications, full-or part-time status, and schedule. If selected for the role, your salary will be determined by your experience and qualifications. Salaries do not include benefits that are described below.

- Faculty and Curricular Advancement (FACA) Program: A $5.6 million endowed program, established in 1989, supports summer professional development work by faculty. This program provides full salary and benefits for work on group or individual projects. Approximately 40% of Park faculty participate in FACA projects each summer. Projects are selected through a formal, competitive review process.
- Tuition Remission: Under current policy, employees who have been employed at Park full-time for two years are eligible to receive full tuition remission for their children who attend Park. (Faculty children must meet the same standards for admission as all other applicants.) During the first two years of employment, faculty may apply for financial assistance through Park’s need-based tuition assistance program.
