Test Preparation
Students usually benefit from preparing for standardized tests. After all, the better part of wisdom suggests that one should study before taking any test. That said, the standardized test-prep industry has grown to multi-million dollar proportions, and students do not necessarily need to take expensive courses in order to prepare for these tests.
There are two free resources available to students:
- ACT Academy — A new resource for students preparing for the ACT
- Khan Academy — Khan Academy has partnered with the College Board and provides customized test preparation for the SAT based on a student’s PSAT scores
If students conscientiously use these free resources to practice, they may achieve similar gains to those who pay high fees for courses or private tutors. In some instances, however, more formal preparation for these tests may be preferred. While the College Counselors do not endorse or recommend any particular test-taking companies or individuals, our office maintains a list of tutors whom Park students have used in the past.
