Join us for a special evening with Civil Rights Activist Sybil Jordan Hampton, Ed.D
Monday, February 10
7 p.m.
Location: Middle School Commons
Hosted by the Parents’ Association. Free and open to the public.
Educator, scholar, philanthropist Dr. Sybil Jordan Hampton followed in the footsteps of the Little Rock Nine two years after they desegregated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. After the Little Rock Nine entered Central in 1957, the school board voted to close all public schools in the area to halt the practice of Blacks and Whites attending school together.
Dr. Hampton joined Central High as the only Black student in her grade of over 500 students. For three years, no one spoke to her, looked at her, or smiled at her. She graduated alone, went to college, earned advanced degrees, chaired major foundations, and has wisdom to share with others. Her story is about seeing one another as humans, knowing your worth despite what others might think of you, and the importance of community and compassion.
