Program Overview:

Our “Hands On, Minds On” Specialty Camps offer an elevated, age-appropriate progression from the traditional day-camp experience. As campers develop their passions, they are eager to have more immersive experiences in topics that challenge and inspire them, and our specialty camp program is designed to do just that.

The specialty camp program is a full-day experience. Campers can either choose a full-day camp that provides an immersive experience in one topic for the full week, or they can pair two half-day camps that provide more variety throughout the day. The camps are designed and taught by Park teachers and experts, marrying individual passions with camper interests. Each full-week session costs $525 (prorated for shorter weeks).

Full-Day Experience:
Lego Robotics

Participants will use Robot Inventor kits to build robots with a computer brain, sensors, and motors. Then, they will code the robots to move and complete tasks using a simple drag and drop programming interface. No experience necessary.

Morning + Afternoon Combination:
Creative Writing and Nature Fun + Mission in the Kitchen (Baking and Pastries)

Campers kick off the day exploring creativity through writing, games, music, and yoga. Using Park’s 100-acre wooded campus for inspiration — trails, streams, and natural beauty — they draw on both favorite and new authors in fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction. Campers experiment with different forms, create solo and collaborative projects, and meet one-on-one with the teacher, all while sharing their work in a supportive, upbeat environment.

In the afternoon, campers move to the kitchen for a hands-on baking workshop. Each day focuses on a different skill, from quick breads and cookies to yeast doughs, cakes, and pies, while emphasizing kitchen safety and building confidence. By the end of the week, campers will have made a variety of baked goods from scratch. Please note: this camp includes a $25 materials fee.

Campers will prepare regional favorites — chowder, mac and cheese, cornbread, deep-dish mini pizzas, fajitas, grain bowls, and more — finishing with sweet treats like blueberry crisp, peach cobbler, butter cake, churros, and fruit tarts. Calling all young people interested in working with kids! Do you want to learn more about childcare, train to become a counselor at Park Camps, or do you have dreams of one day working with young people?

During the morning sessions of Park’s Leadership Development Camp, campers will receive extensive training in childcare, including discovering fun games and activities to do with kids, what to do in an emergency, and even tips on how to get a babysitting job. During the afternoon sessions, campers will have the opportunity to apply their training from the morning workshops by working directly with younger kids. In addition, campers will be asked to process their experiences with each other and a lead instructor. Through the CIT Program, campers will learn to become stronger leaders.

After completing the two-week Leadership Development program, campers may apply to intern for additional weeks — as many as they are available — for the remainder of the summer (July 6-August 7). Acceptance into these additional weeks is based on the CIT’s engagement, responsibility, teamwork, and ability to apply leadership skills with younger children. Those who demonstrate maturity, initiative, and a positive attitude are most likely to be invited to continue, gaining hands-on experience and additional opportunities to develop their leadership abilities. There is no charge for the additional internship weeks from July 6-August 7.

** Completing the Leadership Development Program does not guarantee participants will be hired as future paid counselors at Park Camps.
