Parent Affinity Groups
Groups of Park parents linked by a common identity, interest, or purpose.
Open to all Park Parents
Park Parent Affinity Groups are designed to facilitate the following:
- • Discuss issues that support Park’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and priorities
- • Hold space to identify issues relevant to and through the lens of group participants
- • Build capacity for cross group dialogue and more inclusive spaces
- • Connect issues relevant to the groups to the larger community
The affinity groups are not intended to imply that all members share the same experience. Rather, the groups provide the opportunity for reflection, dialogue, and support, and the capacity to build more inclusive spaces. All groups are open to all Park parents. Please contact Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Akira Townes at atownes@parkschool.net for more information.

Parent Affinity Group FAQ
Parent diversity affinity groups are Park parents who meet in small groups to discuss diversity topics.
The goals for parent affinity groups are: 1) to have ongoing small group discussions for parents of diverse experiences and backgrounds, and 2) to offer feedback that can inform Park School initiatives, programming, and planning.
Groups will gather periodically for social activities and discussions of topics relevant to each group’s focus. Groups should seek to create reports/minutes to be shared.
All groups are open to all parents of Park students.
Many of the groups have existed at Park for years (Parents of Color and LGBT Parents, etc.). Some groups are new.
Parent diversity affinity Groups represent a partnership between the Office of DEI and the Parents’ Association.
The groups are largely based on legally protected social groupings such as class, race, religion, gender, gender sexuality, age, and ability. Some of the topics have come from Park parents’ recommendations.
After signing up for a group, a parent will be placed on the email distribution list for that group. While members are encouraged to participate fully in the life of the group (attend meetings, social gatherings, offer input, etc.), there is no obligation.
