The Peabody Institute and Park School are excited to partner together to provide DANCE and MUSIC opportunities to the Baltimore community.
Peabody and Park share a progressive approach to arts education, empowering students to develop agency and voice on their educational journeys. With a shared commitment to innovation and equity, Peabody and Park inspire students to break new ground and become actively engaged leaders in the arts community.
Preparatory Dance offers classes at The Park School on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30-8:45 p.m. in the dance studio located in the Wyman Arts Center. On Mondays and Wednesday, from 3:15-4:30 p.m., Peabody will run a seasonal dance class (fall, winter, and spring) that is exclusive to Park students as part of Park’s After-School Program. The Monday class is open to 1st-3rd Graders, and the Wednesday class is open to Pre-K-Kindergarten students.
Park students who are interested in Peabody’s year-long dance classes that are open to the public can register through Peabody’s website; registration for the seasonal dance classes that are exclusive to Park students takes place in CampBrain and coincides with the registration for seasonal enrichment offerings.
Peabody’s Preparatory Music provides individual music lessons at The Park School on weekday afternoons and evenings for students in Grades Pre-K–12.
The private music lesson program is open to all skill levels and ages, and they include opportunities to participate in recitals, repertoire and master classes, and Peabody’s music certificate programs. Lessons take place Monday-Thursday afternoons and evenings in the Wyman Arts music rooms.

In addition, Park also hosts Early Childhood music classes on Saturday mornings in the Lower School music classrooms.

This class is exclusive to Park School students. Registration takes place seasonally as part of the registration for all after-school enrichment classes.

Does your elementary schooler love to move? Come join us for a fun filled exploration of the fundamentals of dance! This creative and expressive introduction to dance is dedicated to the exploration and expansion of our movement vocabulary. Dancers will be inspired through self-expressive movement, as well as explore codified dance techniques that build new skills and engage our bodies in stretching, strengthening, and building new coordination. This class will integrate mindful breathing techniques and meditative movement exercises to help us regulate and connect through social awareness. Experience the joy of movement and dancing together in community. Students should wear close fitting athletic clothes with their hair secured off the face and neck.

Join us for a dance class that will use the structure of a traditional ballet class to prepare dancers for the 21st century. This class designed for teen dancers ages 12-15 will inspire students to move with grace and confidence, executing exercises at the barre, in the center, and across the floor with gradually increasing difficulty. Students will be encouraged to work within a safe range of motion for their bodies, focusing on core stability, turnout, coordination, and performance quality. Emphasis is placed on building the flexibility and strength required to consistently execute basic turns and jumps, along with clear, articulate control over footwork and the upper body. This class is an opportunity for students to discover the joy of ballet, while feeling inspired and building confidence in themselves as a mover!

Ballet 101 Workshop
Have you ever been curious about Ballet, but didn’t know where to start? Have you ever thought about taking a Ballet class, but felt intimidated? This workshop is for you! Come join us for an introduction to the fundamentals of Classical Ballet.
This workshop is specifically designed for adults. It is taught in an encouraging and supportive environment. During this workshop you will learn a brief history of Ballet, structure of a class, technical terminology, and foundational positions and steps along with simple Ballet combinations. Informational handouts will be given for reference and to help guide you through the workshop.
Please note there is no drop-in available. This is a progressive dance series in which you are fully enrolled. Each week we will gradually introduce new concepts and build from the previous class. By the end of this workshop, you will have the knowledge, experience, and confidence to join one of our other Adult Ballet classes.
Ballet 201 Workshop: Beyond the Basics
Have you taken our Ballet 101 workshop and you’re ready for the next level? Are you someone who took Ballet when you were younger and would like to have a refresher before joining an ongoing class? Please join us for a continuation of the fundamentals to Classical Ballet.
This workshop is specifically designed for adults who are new beginners. During this series, there will be a focus on improving Ballet technique, learning more elaborate steps and combinations, developing a stronger understanding of Ballet, and gaining more experience.
Please note, there is no drop-in available for this workshop. This is a progressive dance series in which you are fully enrolled. Each week, we will slowly break down the new more intricate steps and will build on them to make smoother transitions and fluidity of movement. By the end of this workshop, you will have the knowledge, experience, and confidence to join one of our other Adult Ballet classes.

Beginning Ballet is designed for adults with some previous ballet training or general dance experience and recommended for those who have a basic knowledge of dance vocabulary. This class will move at a slow pace, focusing on the fundamentals of ballet technique, proper alignment, and will include simple ballet combinations. This class is perfect for those who have taken ballet in their youth and are ready to return. This class is also great for someone who has taken our Ballet 101 and 201 Workshops and are ready to move on. Please note that this class is not recommended for complete beginners.

Is your child constantly dancing or perhaps needs some encouragement to move? This class is the perfect place for them to safely use their bodies and explore their own creativity in a fun and welcoming environment. Our early childhood curriculum introduces students to fundamental movement patterns and locomotive activities that build vocabulary, physical strength, flexibility, and coordination. Classes practice rhythmic awareness, encourage social engagement, and promote self-expression through group activities. Your student will be a part of an inclusive learning environment that promotes artistic expression and come home inspired! Students should wear close fitting athletic clothes with their hair secured off the face and neck.

Join us for a Teen Contemporary Dance class that will explore elements of traditional modern dance techniques and exciting new contemporary forms. This class designed for teen dancers ages 12-15 will inspire students to move creatively by practicing fundamental components of various modern dance techniques including Horton, Graham, and Limón. Students will explore components of improvisation and student-led compositions to integrate the movement vocabulary into more contemporary movement styles. This class is dedicated to building the inner self confidence and creativity of engaged movers by building body strength and flexibility, and exploring self-expression in non-verbal forms. Let’s move, create, and learn together through movement styles that express, connect, and inspire!

Join us for a dance class that builds upon the foundational ballet skills developed in Teen Ballet 1. This class follows the structure of a classical ballet class while encouraging deeper engagement with the principles of ballet technique through both barre and center work. Students will refine their practice of ballet movement vocabulary with a more nuanced approach to ideas of alignment, core stability, turnout, and performance quality, all while moving at a quicker pace and utilizing more complex movement combinations. Students will set and work towards personal goals, with emphasis placed on safe dance practice. Students will practice ballet jumps, turns and traveling steps, focusing on coordination and control of movement. This class is an opportunity for students to strengthen their ballet technique, while continuing to experience the joy of the art form!

Join us for a high energy dance class that will explore the fusion of techniques that developed into American Jazz over the 20th century. This class will build a strong foundation in Jazz dance technique, emphasizing expressive and stylized movement while focusing on safe execution, specific body positions, and clear musicality. This class is designed for students ages 8-12 who would like to try a new style of dance or may be interested in expanding their movement vocabulary. Styles that may be explored include musical theater, Latin fusion, social dance, and street jazz. Each class will begin with a warm-up series, followed by across-the-floor exercises, and center combinations. Come join us for a fun dance class that promotes self-expression and community!
