School Store Associate
THE POSITION
The Park School seeks a part-time School Store Associate. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a school environment interacting with children and families, and brings experience in retail, marketing, and/or customer service. This position reports to the Director of Accounting and plays a vital role in enhancing school spirit and community through the store’s offerings.

The Park School is a non-sectarian, independent, gender inclusive day school of 826 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1912 as one of the early progressive schools, The Park School continues to practice a distinct educational philosophy. The core values today, as in 1912, are a belief in children’s capacity to love learning, to grow academically and emotionally when inspired by highly qualified, caring teachers, and to develop self-discipline, confidence, and creative problem-solving skills through deep exploration and constant challenge. At every grade level, from Pre-Kindergarten through Upper School, Park actively encourages questioning and conversation as essential elements of the learning process. The School Store Associate is responsible for the daily operations of the school store, serving students, families, faculty, and staff. This is a 10-month, non-exempt, part-time position. Key duties include customer service, inventory management, purchasing, merchandising, marketing, recordkeeping, and financial reporting.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage daily sales using the point-of-sale (POS) system, including cash, credit card, and account transactions, as well as processing refunds
- Maintain inventory: purchase, receive, restock, and conduct quarterly counts
- Open and prepare store for daily operations; maintain cleanliness and presentation standards
- Ensure compliance with food safety and handling protocols
- Order product and assist in design and selection of new products
- Plan merchandising and promotional displays
- Support school spirit initiatives through creative and effective marketing
- Maintain and update the POS database: customers, limits, pricing, and product setup
- Analyze sales data to make recommendations on pricing, product mix, and vendor selection
- Submit invoices for payment or process purchases using the school’s credit card
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly sales and inventory reports
- Serve as the primary contact for technical issues with third-party POS vendors
- Maintain store organization, including restocking merchandise and snacks
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Accounting
WORK SCHEDULE
(30 hours per week)
- Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (Noon– 6 p.m.)
- Wednesday and Friday (8 a.m. – 2 pm.)
- Additional hours for special events will be required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 3–5 years of relevant experience preferred
- Experience in retail operations, marketing, or customer service preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong interpersonal skills; enjoys working with children and families
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication
- Exhibit excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Familiarity with office procedures and POS systems
- Comfortable learning and troubleshooting software systems
- Ability to remain calm and resourceful in a fast-paced environment
- Problem-solving mindset and willingness to take initiative
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit or stand for moderate periods
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. and perform physical tasks related to receiving, organizing, and stocking merchandise
- Occasional use of a ladder is required for inventory and store displays
PAY
$23.00-$25.00 per hour
